Die deutsche Fassung dieses Interviews befindet sich hier. Instead of staying in the privacy of the backstage, Rilo Kiley's Drummer Jason Boesel and Guitarrist/Singer Blake Sennett prefer to take a lonely table in the Berlin Lido's unoccupied area. They are still in a good mood, and happy to give Darina Goldin a short interview. Darina Goldin: You seemed quite happy on the stage.
Blake Sennett: Yeah, it was a very good show. We were having a lot of fun.
Jason Boesel: Yeah, it was a great crowd, it's like the best european crowd that we've seen on this tour.
Darina Goldin: So it's nothing personal?
Jason Boesel: I guess it is personal, as well. Personally, we feel pretty happy to be here and having fun and liking the songs and music and each other, so...
Darina Goldin: And the new record, do you feel it's well received? Since almost nobody has heard it here yet.
Jason Boesel: Yeah, I think it's pretty well received. So far people we've talked to have liked it, so yeah. Darina Goldin: How come you covered yourselves?
Blake Sennett: Covered ourselves?
Darina Goldin: Well, playing Jenny's and your solo songs.
Blake Sennett: We felt it was nice to represent our own other projects, to bring it all in.
Jason Boesel: It is a hard line between this band and the other bands, you know. Because it's all family.
Blake Sennett: Yeah, a very very tight knit family.
Darina Goldin: On the last tour you said that you liked to try out new songs on your tours in Europe. Is it still this way?
Jason Boesel: Kind of. In this case we came to Europe first, before we played any shows in the US.
Blake Sennett: Yes, that's kind of what we're doing this time. We've come to Europe to play new songs. It's kind of like taking your clothes off in front of a doctor. None of our friends are here, you know, it's kind of more impersonal, it's easier.
Jason Boesel (compares Darina's and his beer bottles): Oh you're drinking Becks here. Can't you get Berliner at the bar?
Darina Goldin: No, only Becks.
Jason Boesel: That's a sad thing. This is so much better.
Darina Goldin: The last question is about the new album. I feel like one could grow up with Rilo Kiley's music. Like when you start out with Glendora and you're a teen and all messed up...
Jason & Blake: Yeah, totally.
Darina Goldin: ...and then it grows. How do you feel about it?
Jason Boesel: I think that's still true. I think there's an aging of the sound and contents, body and mind, all of that. The songs grow older, but they kind of happened out of music we listened to as children. Growing up in late seventies and early eighties, it gave the dance aspect of it. BeeGees. Blake Sennett: Or Rolling Stones... The list goes on and on.
Darina Goldin: Thank you for the interview. Text Copyright Darina Goldin 2007 Pictures Copyright Niko Losse
